The Family Portal
Our privacy promise
The Family Portal exists so our family has a safe, private place to share memories, photos and history, without big companies collecting or selling any of it. Here's exactly what that means.
- 🔒 Family onlyOnly family members whose accounts an admin has approved can see anything on the site.
- 🚫 No ads, never soldThere are no ads and no tracking, and nothing is ever sold or shared with companies.
- 🙈 Not on search enginesFamily information is never shown to Google or any other search engine.
- 🎛️ You're in controlYou choose what others see about you, and you can ask for anything about you to be removed.

What the site keeps
- Your account: your name, email address and password. Passwords are stored scrambled, so nobody can read them, not even the admins.
- What you add: your profile, memories, events, photos, documents, messages and changes to the family tree.
- Your settings, and the last time you were on the site (used for “what's new since your last visit” and your online status).
Where it's kept
- The database (accounts, the tree, memories, messages) runs on Fly.io in the United States, with daily backups.
- The website, photos and documents are stored with Cloudflare.
- To work, pages also load a few free services: Google Fonts (the lettering), public code libraries (jsDelivr, unpkg and cdnjs), and OpenStreetMap for the Maps page, which looks up place names (never people) to put pins on the map. Like any website, these see that a device visited, not your family information.
- Jordan runs the site. Like anyone who runs a website, the site's owner can technically reach what's stored in the database; that access is only used to keep the site working and fix problems.
Your choices
- Hide your phone, birthday or address, turn off messages, and choose your online status in Settings → My privacy.
- Mark a memory 🔒 Only me to keep it to yourself.
- Want something about you or your children changed or removed, or your account deleted? Use Help → Privacy concern on the site, or ask Jordan or another admin. We'll take care of it.
Family rules
A few simple rules keep the Family Portal a good place for everyone:
- Be kind. This is a family gathering place. Disagree gently.
- Share what's yours to share. Post photos and documents you took, own, or have permission to share.
- Respect living relatives. Ask before posting someone's private matters (health, relationships, addresses), and add people with care.
- Protect the children. Only parents add their own children. Never post a child's details on someone else's behalf.
- Keep it in the family. Don't copy other people's photos or stories off the site without asking them first.
- Fix mistakes kindly. Correct the tree with sources when you can, or flag it so someone can check.
Admins may remove posts or pause accounts that break these rules, after talking with the person whenever possible.
